Healthy Eyes Alliance and Mitchell Auto Group Partner to Save Sight in Simsbury on Thursday, September 20 from 3-7PM.

Simsbury, CT 2012 – Free vision screenings will be made available to the public on Thursday, September 20, at the Mitchell Volvo Showroom, in Simsbury, located at 384 Hop Meadow Road, Route 10, from 3-7PM.

The free screening event is being sponsored by regional non-profit, Healthy Eyes Alliance and The Mitchell Auto Group.

Healthy Eyes Alliance's trained and certified vision screeners will provide screenings and pass out educational materials that explain the need for regular eye exams and describe the various eye diseases and how to prevent vision loss and vision impairment. There will be healthy, small bites for refreshments made from fresh, local produce sold at Fitzgerald's Foods.

Healthy Eyes Alliance CEO, Kathy Garre-Ayars, explains that "50% of all treatable blindness can be prevented with regular eye exams. We want to stress the need for people to make vision an important part of their healthcare agenda. Additionally, we want the public to make healthy choices when it comes to their eating habits, which can contribute immeasurably to healthy eyes. We are grateful for Mitchell Auto Group's sponsorship of this event and their commitment to the wellness of and safety of its community".

Healthy Eyes Alliance has been conducting free vision screenings, public education and advocacy throughout the state since 1952 when it was founded under the name National Society for the Prevention of Blindness.

Recently it ceased it membership with its historic, parent, organization and is operating under its new name Healthy Eyes Alliance. Its quality programs and strong tradition of service in the metro region of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey will continue. The Board of Directors has completed a three-year strategic plan.

Fall brings the beginning of its preschool visions screening and adult screenings in community centers and workplaces throughout the region. Anyone wishing to make a donation to Healthy Eyes Alliance should call Ms. Garre-Ayars, or send it to 101 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT. 06510
